A little exercise for you to do today
Here’s a little exercise you can do throughout your day—
I want you to notice how your thoughts create your reality.
When you think “I’m never going to get everything done…”
…how do you create a reality where you don’t get everything done?
When you think “I’m never going to figure this out…”
…how do you create a reality where you don’t figure it out?
When you think “I’m not good at this…”
…how do you create a reality where you’re not good at it?
All day long today, I just want you to play this little game with yourself.
Notice what you’re thinking.
And then notice how it always seems to comes true.
Just watch the machine at work – like a curious observer.
And then, if you want to play Level 2 of the game…
Try on a different thought and see what happens.
Don’t push it or force it. 😤
Think of it like trying on a new pair of sunglasses. 😎
Just peek through the lens and see what looks different.
When you think “Everything that matters is going to get done today…”
…what changes?
When you think “I bet I can figure this out…”
…what changes?
When you think “I’m good at things like this…”
…what changes?
Notice the shift in your body.
Notice how the world looks different.
Notice how you see things you didn’t see before.
Notice how a new path unfurls in front of you.
That’s you creating a new reality.
And this is what we do in coaching.
We change the sunglasses you’re wearing…
So you can see the world differently…
So you can feel differently about what’s in front of you…
And you can see possibilities and paths forward that you simply couldn’t see before.
We change your thinking in order to change your reality.
Not just for a few seconds at a time.
But for sustained stretches of time until the new thinking sinks in and becomes habitual.
And even more importantly…
We practice the skill of trying on, testing out, and choosing your thoughts.
The same way you try on, test out, and choose your outfits until you find the one that feels right to YOU.
(You don’t spend the whole day in your pajamas just because that’s what you woke up in.)
So when you walk out of coaching…
You don’t just have the best-fit set of thoughts for the situation in front of you…
(You don’t just have the best outfits for the five parties you have coming up…)
You’ve also built the skill of choosing and composing your thoughts for the rest of your life, no matter what situations come up.
(You’ve also built the skill of composing your wardrobe for the rest of your life, no matter what social events come up.)
Which allows you to create the reality you want in any situation.
Which is nothing less than you deserve – because you deserve to live the exact life you want, starting today.
