A secret extra bonus mistake that high achievers make when choosing their next career step
Life is like a room where everyone is sitting around playing different board games.
Everyone comes into this room with a bunch of game pieces in their pocket.
Maybe you walked in with a bunch of chess pieces, a couple of playing cards, a handful of mahjong tiles, and one Monopoly piece.
Maybe someone else has a pocketful of checkers pieces, a full set of Scrabble tiles, and three battleships.
As you’re standing in this room, there are three questions I want you ask yourself:
1: Which game do you want to play?
You don’t have to play chess just because 100 people are playing chess.
You can play whatever you want — there are no rules here.
So pick a game you actually want to play.
2: Who can you swap pieces with?
You may not have the full set of game pieces to win your game — yet.
But luckily, everyone has a few pieces for a lot of different games.
Which means there are a lot of win-win trades to be made.
How can you gather the pieces you need — and leave a trail of happy collaborators behind you?
3: How can you win your game?
Once you’ve picked your game and assembled your pieces…
Now the fun begins.
Let’s sit down and win this thing.
Too many high achievers focus just on Question 3…
Without ever asking themselves Questions 1 and 2.
Which means they end up working super hard to win games they don’t actually want to be playing…
And they put their nose to the grindstone trying to win Monopoly with mahjong tiles…
Instead of just raising their hand and saying, “Hey! I need some Monopoly money! Anyone want to give me some, in exchange for some mahjong tiles?”
Yesterday, I started a series called 7 mistakes high achievers make when choosing their next career step.
And I’m going to be honest, this wasn’t even on the list of mistakes I wanted to talk about.
But consider this a secret extra bonus tip :)
An amuse bouche before we kick off the series for real next week.
A secret menu puppuccino treat for your Friday afternoon.
