Afraid of failure? Read this.
A lot of people really, really want something…
…but they’re afraid that they’ll fail if they try to get it…
…so they don’t even try.
This could be knowing what kind of job you’d like ideally, your A+ perfect job…
…but being afraid you won’t get it, and so applying for B+ and C+ jobs instead.
Or knowing the kind of person you’d like to date ideally…
…but being afraid there aren’t enough of them out there, or they might reject you, and so going for people that are less than your ideal (or not dating at all!).
Or knowing the exact fitness goal you’d love to achieve and have been dreaming about for years…
…but feeling like you’ll never get there, so you don’t even try.
This kind of thinking makes a ton of sense emotionally.
Your brain wants to stay away from the pain of rejection and failure — this is how it’s designed!
But logically, this thinking makes no sense at all.
Your biggest fear is that you’re not going to get the outcome you want.
You’re not going to get the job.
You’re not going to find the person you want to be with.
You’re not going to achieve the fitness goal.
But guess what?
You are already living in your worst case scenario.
You already don’t have the outcome that you want. You’re already there!
And if you don’t try, you have a 100% chance of staying in your worst case scenario.
But if you try…
If you make any kind of attempt…
You have a non-zero chance of getting OUT of the worst case scenario and getting the thing you want.
Managing the divide between intellectual logic and emotional logic is the work of a lifetime.
Sometimes your emotional logic is just plain wrong…
…but if you don’t address it and shift it, it can still hold you back and prevent you from doing the things you want.
(We often call that “self-sabotage” but it’s really just internal misalignment that you haven’t resolved yet.)
Sometimes your emotional logic is RIGHT.
Sometimes there are pearls of wisdom inside your intuition that you absolutely must listen to.
All the thinking and planning and pro/con lists in the world can’t take you where your gut can take you.
And many times, the right answer is a hybrid third answer.
Working back and forth between your logical brain and your intuition until you’ve charted a new path forward that works for all parties.
This work is not “one and done.” It’s a lifelong practice.
And if you can learn the skill of getting the two forces inside you to work together…
…that’s when you can unleash the best of you.
That’s what I teach my clients to do. So let’s start today.
What my clients have to say…
“Everything in the world is about feelings. At the end of the day, that's the reality of the human condition. And so to get to this level of analytical rigor around my feelings is just so helpful.”
