Here are the questions high achievers usually ask themselves when setting a goal:
Is this ambitious enough?
Am I setting the bar high enough for myself?
Is this going to get me to where I want to go?
Here’s the question you should be asking…
(And I can almost guarantee that you’re not asking it.)
How do you feel when you look at the goal?
Does looking at the goal make you want to jump into action?
Or does looking at the goal make you freeze up and walk away?
The size of your goal is way less important than the momentum that your goal generates.
So the only time I want you to set a higher bar…
Is when doing so creates MORE momentum than setting a lower bar.
And if you’re finding yourself stuck and frozen at the starting line of your goal…
Lower the stakes. Lower the bar. Make it super easy. Make it stupidly, stupidly doable.
It doesn’t matter if that micro-goal won’t get you to the destination.
What matters is that the micro-goal will get you started.
And getting started will get you to the destination.
Getting things done and achieving big goals is so much less about willpower and so much more about framing.
Having to use willpower just means you’ve framed what you want to do in a daunting way…
And now you have to use extra energy to push through that daunting framing to make yourself do it anyway.
If you frame what you want to do in a doable way, rather than a daunting way…
You don’t have to waste any energy fighting yourself.
You can just get it done and then have plenty of gas left in the tank to keep on going after that, too.
So go re-set your goals for momentum, not achievement.
And if you try to do that and you’re still feeling stuck…

What my clients have to say…
“What I liked about Pooja’s approach was that she tackled everything at the same time, and she provided practical goals, which were really instrumental in changing my thinking.
I had always been a very intellectual person struggling with the practical stuff. And what I liked about her approach was that she gave me practical goals on a weekly basis.”

I help high achievers build their careers around flow.
This requires…
Internally, learning how to access your flow no matter what’s going on around you
Externally, designing a career strategy that angles your flow at a high-priority problem that someone will pay you good money to solve
Tactically, navigating the transition from the role you’re in to the role you want
Today’s article focused on #1.
