It’s not that deep.
When someone is working on liking themselves more or becoming more confident or being less anxious, they talk often about it as being deep inner work.
This implies that it will take a long time and it’ll be profound and moving and painful and it’ll take up a lot of bandwidth while you're working on it.
If thinking about it this way works for you, that’s awesome! Keep going.
But if doing “deep inner work” sounds like a huge, intimidating project to you…
Let me give you another way to think about it.
If you’re currently right-handed and you want to become just as good at using your left hand for everything…
How would you think about that project?
You’ve been using your right hand for everything for decades at this point. It’s a habit that’s been deeply ingrained since childhood. It influences a million subtle things about you.
But you wouldn’t call your quest to get good at using your left hand “deep inner work.”
You’d be like — It’s not that profound. It’s just a bunch of reps.
You’d start slow and small. Maybe the first step would be to just eat breakfast with your left hand 2 times a week.
You’d pick low-risk moments to practice. Important business meeting? Not the moment to take left-handed notes. Casual phone call where you have to jot something down? Great moment to practice!
You’d expect the change to happen incrementally over years. You know this isn’t an overnight thing. You’d probably expect a few years of small, gradual changes.
You’d make it a small, doable part of your daily routine. Your life has to go on while this happens! You’d find a small way to fit in daily reps that is sustainable even when your job gets busy, you get into or out of relationships, move cities, become a parent, or other Life Things happen.
All those things we call “deep inner work”?
They’re not that different from learning how to write with your left hand.
Yes, your current mental habits have been with you for a very long time.
Just like your current dominant hand habits have been with you for a very long time.
AND you can change those habits any time you want.
NOT through a profound, painful, high-bandwidth lift.
But through small daily changes plugging along in the background while the rest of your life keeps going around you.
And if you've been wanting to like yourself more, feel better day-to-day, be more confident, be less anxious, actually live the life you want…
But you’ve been hesitating to get started because the project just seems so BIG…
Come talk to me and let’s break it down into small, doable steps and start fitting this work into your life without disruption.
All you have to do is set aside an hour a week.
I’ll do the rest.
Let’s get started today.
What my clients have to say…
“The impacts have been huge. I started feeling more confident and self-assured at work. And that gave me the emotional bandwidth to start building better habits too.
Now I’m doing a lot better with my work and it's taking up less energy at the same time. I'm not working as hard but I'm getting better results. I feel like this is a more sustainable way that I can conduct myself in my career.”
