Answer: They’re all thoughts!
What would these sentences sound like, if we stuck 100% to the facts?
They might look like:
I hate my job →
I work at [role] at [company].My partner should do more to help →
My partner did ___ and didn’t do ___.I never have enough time →
I have 7 meetings on my calendar today.I need more money →
I currently have $X in my account.They don’t like me →
They said, “___.”
Notice how different facts feel from thoughts.
Facts are NEUTRAL.
Thoughts come with an emotional charge attached to them.
And even if you don’t know what else to think…
Or how to change your thoughts…
Or how to feel differently…
One thing you can always do is separate your thoughts from the facts.
Just doing that gives your brain a little bit of breathing space.
And in that space, you can choose how you want to react.
