Stressed at work? Let's check your calibration.
Many companies evaluate their employees on a scale like this:
❌ Counsel to Leave — You need to go. This is not working.
😬 Concerns — We’re not firing you yet. But it’s getting close.
👍🏽 Meets Expectations — Solid. Good work, buddy!
🙌🏽 Strong — Wow, great work! You’re really good at this!
🤩 Distinctive — Top top performer. Can we promote you straight to CEO?
Many high-stress high achievers mis-calibrate themselves on this scale. Here’s how—
What YOU think is Meets Expectations…is actually Distinctive
What YOU think is Concerns…is actually Strong
What YOU think is Counsel to Leave…is actually Meets Expectations
When you’re staring at your to-do list at the end of the day, frustrated by how much didn’t get done…
When you’re sending out materials that you think are half-baked, and you wish you had more time to polish them…
When you’re filled with guilt at the thought of pushing something to tomorrow, or next week, or next month…
Remember: You are not bad at this, or behind on things, and nobody is mad at you.
You are just mis-calibrated.
And correcting your calibration doesn’t mean that you have to care less, work less, or do bad work.
Correcting your calibration allows you to do MORE and BETTER work.
High-stress high achievers often have two sources of motivation:
One burns them out — that’s seeking external validation, feeling like they’re not good enough, and constantly trying to “catch up” and “climb out of the hole.”
The other sustains them and propels them to new heights — that’s feeling confident that they know what they’re doing, flexing their expertise and authority, working toward a vision they’re excited about, and doing it all from a solid foundation of “I got this.”
I’m not here to tell you to care less.
I’m here to help you notice when you’ve slipped into “burnout mode” and get back into “I got this mode” faster and faster every time — no matter WHAT situation is in front of you.
Come talk to me, and let’s put together your custom, step-by-step plan for learning, practicing, and mastering this skill.
