Stressed? Scared? Find sufficiency in the worst case scenario.
Today, I want to tell you about one of my favorite techniques to make yourself less stressed out in whatever situation you’re in….
…Or to make it easier to take risks when you are reaching for something that you want to do but is a little scary for you.
It’s this:
Find sufficiency in the worst case scenario.
So if you’re stressed out at work and it feels like it’s all going to come crumbling down, and everyone’s going to blame you for everything…
Really think about: What is the worst case scenario here? What’s the worst thing that could happen?
Maybe it’s literally you just get fired, right?
And then find sufficiency in the worst case scenario.
How would you still be okay? As a human being? In terms of your finances? In terms of your life?
Or let’s say you want to do something risky to take a leap towards what you want to do, but it’s also scary.
For me, this was starting my business — very, very scary! I had no idea how it was going to go.
And one of the things that really helped me be able to take that leap was to find sufficiency in the worst case scenario.
I asked myself: What’s the worst possible thing that could happen if I started my business?
It would be that I try for five years to build my business, I do everything I can, and it totally flops.
I get no clients, zero revenue — it just doesn’t work at all.
And then…I go get another corporate job.
I really thought about that scenario, and I was like, “Okay, that’s not that bad.”
I would rather go to my grave having tried really hard for five years, having done everything I could think of, and having really confirmed for myself that this isn’t possible — this genuinely doesn’t work for XYZ reasons.
And then I’d happily go get another corporate job.
I would rather do that than be scared for my whole life and never try and then go to my grave saying, “I wish I had tried. I really wanted to do that.”
And as soon as I found sufficiency in the worst case scenario, suddenly taking that big leap wasn’t so scary after all.
PS—
You know what else makes it easier to go through stressful situations and take scary risks?
Having someone by your side, guiding you, cheerleading you, and helping you problem-solve.
I don’t do this alone — I talk to a coach every week.
You don’t have to do it alone either. Come talk to me, and let me help.
What my clients have to say…
“Everyone needs someone to talk to. But Pooja’s advice specifically has been so high quality and unique compared to what else I've been able to find. Nothing has resonated like her advice has.”
