The best career advice I can give you is to build your career around your strengths.
Build it around the kind of problem solving and the kind of tasks that you’re really good at, that you enjoy, that comes easily to you.
Build your career around your zone of genius.
But here’s why people actually struggle to do that.
A lot of people look at the things that come easily to them, that they do well, that they have fun doing, and they’re like…
“This isn’t enough. This is too easy. It’s too simple. It’s too junior. I can’t just build a career around that!”
And that is a fallacy, because those things that you’re really good at, that come really easily to you, they’re not universally easy and simple.
Lots of people actually struggle with them! And the fact that it comes so easily and naturally to you is your competitive advantage.
It’s just that you’ve always been you, so it’s always come easily.
And your brain is thinking, “Oh, this comes easily to everyone,” but it doesn’t.
The fact that it’s so easy for you IS your competitive advantage.
So take those things that you enjoy, that you’re good at, that come easily to you, and build your career around them.
And if you’re reading this and thinking, “But Pooja, I don’t even know what those strengths are!! How do I figure it out??”
Don’t worry. It’s very normal to be unsure about this. You’re too close to yourself to be able to see yourself clearly — everyone is this way.
And this is exactly what I help people do. We’ll dig into examples of times when you’ve felt in flow. We’ll extract the common themes — the unique fingerprint of the way YOU do things. (This is one of MY strengths :)
We’ll take those raw ingredients and build a career strategy around them. We’ll figure out exactly what you need to do today, this week, this month, to make progress. And I’ll stay with you until it’s done.
Let’s get started today :)
What my clients have to say…
“Coaching helped me get up and feel empowered and feel like I could actually change my outcome based on how I thought about things.
Having been a real academic overachiever, I get into this situation where if things are not perfect, I get stuck in a rut. Unless it's all perfect, I don't move forward.
But Pooja taught me the concept of ‘quantity creates quality’ and gave me practical goals every week, and that really helped me move forward in my professional life (and even in my dating life!).
I moved from just sitting around in my room overthinking everything and not really taking any action, to having weekly appointments to move things forward, and having someone holding me accountable to getting stuff done. And that just gave me a lot more self-belief and structure.”
