You Haven't Made Too Many Mistakes. You've Made Too Few.
Who’s a better coach — the one who’s never been fired by a client, or the one who’s been fired by 20 clients?
Who’s a better business leader — the one who’s never missed quarterly earnings, or the one who’s missed them 20 times?
Who’s a better baker — the one who’s never had a soufflé collapse, or the one who’s had 20 collapse?
I know you want to say “the first one!!” in every case.
It’s so tempting to want the unblemished record — the report card with straight A’s. To be the effortless genius who just shows up and makes magic every time, no matter the circumstance.
Here’s the reality: Once you get into the realm of hardworking, dedicated high achievers…
The high achiever with lots of mistakes is BETTER at what they do than the high achiever with no mistakes.
They have been in the arena longer.
They have honed their craft and deepened their expertise.
They have gone out of their way to find every pitfall and blindspot and corrected it.
They have a bank of lived experience and instinct that’s not available through study.
And crucially — they have built the skill of NOT seeing mistakes as personal attacks on their worthiness but as just data that they can analyze, learn from, and adjust.
The high achiever with no mistakes has retreated from the arena.
Because the only way to make no mistakes at all is to limit your scope only to the things you already know how to do.
The coach who has been fired 20 times knows much more about her market, her coaching style, which clients to target, and exactly how to get them the results they came for than the coach who’s never been fired.
The leader who’s missed earnings 20 times can tell you more about market dynamics, financial projections, her customers, her teams, and exactly how to get things back on track than the leader who’s never missed earnings.
The baker with 20 fallen soufflés can tell you more about mixing technique, oven temperature, and baking equipment than the baker who’s never had one collapse.
The only way to get there is THROUGH the mistakes.
There is no teacher, other than the experience you go out and seek.
There is no manual, other than the one YOU create for yourself.
Which means that the first big failure is not a sign that you need to stop.
It’s a sign that you’re definitely on the right track.
Your problem isn’t that something just blew up in your face.
Your problem is that things haven’t blown up in your face ENOUGH.
So go out there and collect mistakes.
Nothing is going wrong. Everything is going RIGHT.
For many, this is easier said than done.
You may know this in theory, but your brain still throws a big, fat tantrum every time a mistake actually happens, and all you want to do is quit and run away.
This is totally normal.
And I can teach you how to let that tantrum happen…
…and let it taper off and leave you stronger than you were before.
So you can get back to work, clear-eyed, more determined, and more comfortable with yourself than ever.
Come talk to me and let me teach you how.
