What if I told you that, in order to build the life you want, there are only 2 emotions you need to worry about?
What if the control panel you had to navigate in order to build the life you want looked less like this…
And more like this?
What do you think those two emotions are?
The only 2 emotions you need to toggle between in order to build the career and the life you want?
Many people might guess that they’re positivity and negativity.
Be more positive, optimistic, and cheerful…
Be less negative, pessimistic, and glum…
And you can have anything you want.
I think those people are wrong.
I don’t think it’s about being more positive and less negative.
I think the only two emotions that you need to toggle between are security and insecurity.
Or let me say it another way.
I think the only two versions of you that you need to toggle between…
Are Insecure Overachiever You and Secure High Performer You.
I think you know these two versions of you very well.
I certainly know them very well within myself.
Insecure Overachiever Me…
Works (over-works) like crazy and yet constantly feels behind and like she’s not doing enough.
Procrastinates for ages when a task feels too daunting (all the while feeling terrible for procrastinating).
Spends a lot of time worrying people are mad at her, thinking about how they COULD interpret what she said in a bad way, and reading into the nuances of what people say and do.
Anchors to other people’s compasses instead of her own and is very focused on doing a good job per someone else’s rubric.
Feels like a horrible person if she makes a mistake (or even finds out that she could have done something better).
Is overall pretty mean to herself — and calls that “self-improvement.”
Secure High Performer Me…
Sizes up a task, sees the simplest and most efficient way to get it done, knocks it out, and feels satisfied as heck.
Sees something daunting…and breaks it down into smaller pieces and just gets started.
Is aware of how other people might perceive her and calmly problem-solves how to best get her point across given everyone else’s biases and points of view.
Anchors to her own compass and is focused on executing her own vision.
Finds out she’s made a mistake or could have done something better and says, “Oh cool! I didn’t think of that. Noted for next time!”
Has a realistic view of her own strengths and weaknesses and figures out how to leverage the former and pad out the latter to get what she wants to get done, done. It’s not personal — it’s just a puzzle to be solved.
Both versions exist inside you.
And all that’s happening right now…
Is that your brain automatically activates Insecure Overachiever You in some circumstances…
And it automatically activates Secure High Performer You in other circumstances.
And the whole name of the game…
Is learning how to activate Secure High Performer You in a broader range of circumstances.
That is what we do in coaching.
How much time do you spend per day being Insecure Overachiever You?
How much time do you spend per day being Secure High Performer You?
Your current mix of insecure time vs. secure time…
Your current mix of circumstances that activate Insecure You and circumstances that activate Secure You…
Is keeping you stuck where you are.
So if you want to get un-stuck and break through…
If you want to get out of the daily stress and burnout cycle.
Or if you want to decide, already, whether to quit your job or stay in it.
If you want to get clarity and conviction on your next career step.
Or figure out how to land that next thing and make it a success.
Whatever specific thing you feel stuck on right now…
The answer is to spend more time being Secure High Performer You.
Even in the face of the circumstances that normally bring out Insecure Overachiever You.
And how do you actually do that?

What my clients have to say…
“I had a bit of a conflict where I was like: ‘No one can relate to me. My problems are so unique. My work situation is so unique. No one will ever be able to understand what I’m going through and what I’m feeling.’
And I was so surprised because Pooja got things immediately, she was seeing things that I hadn’t seen. She was making these connections. I felt that she could relate and could see things so clearly.”
