What Finding Nemo can teach you about speaking up
If you are struggling to speak up for yourself, I want you to think about this scene in Finding Nemo.
Deep underwater, the characters find a submarine with a ton of unexploded bombs all around it… And they accidentally set off all the bombs.
There’s this massive explosion that happens underwater. 💥
And then they show you what happens at the surface of the water, as a result of that massive explosion…
And it’s just one tiny little bubble. 🫧
If you’re trying to speak up right now…
If you’re trying to push back and say what you really think, and you’re not in the habit of normally doing this…
It probably feels like SUCH a huge deal for you.
There’s this huge explosion happening inside you, and you’re gathering the courage to say what you really think.
And this is what I really find happens for a lot of people.
They finally put their foot down and they say the thing that they want to say… 💥
…and people are like, “Okay cool, I’ll do that!” 🫧
And it makes no impact whatsoever — in a good way!
You thought that it was going to explode the relationship, ruin everything, and make you like a total outcast…
You thought it was the biggest risk, so scary, so high stakes…
And all that happened was one little bubble.
People just said, “Got it, thanks!”
And it was totally safe.
And sometimes, people DO disagree, and it DOES turn into a big explosion.
Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered in that scenario too.
