What Finding Nemo can teach you about speaking up
If you are struggling to speak up for yourself, I want you to think about this scene in Finding Nemo.
Deep underwater, the characters find a submarine with a ton of unexploded bombs all around itā¦ And they accidentally set off all the bombs.
Thereās this massive explosion that happens underwater. š„
And then they show you what happens at the surface of the water, as a result of that massive explosionā¦
And itās just one tiny little bubble. š«§
If youāre trying to speak up right nowā¦
If youāre trying to push back and say what you really think, and youāre not in the habit of normally doing thisā¦
It probably feels like SUCH a huge deal for you.
Thereās this huge explosion happening inside you, and youāre gathering the courage to say what you really think.
And this is what I really find happens for a lot of people.
They finally put their foot down and they say the thing that they want to sayā¦ š„
ā¦and people are like, āOkay cool, Iāll do that!ā š«§
And it makes no impact whatsoever ā in a good way!
You thought that it was going to explode the relationship, ruin everything, and make you like a total outcastā¦
You thought it was the biggest risk, so scary, so high stakesā¦
And all that happened was one little bubble.
People just said, āGot it, thanks!ā
And it was totally safe.
And sometimes, people DO disagree, and it DOES turn into a big explosion.
Donāt worry, Iāve got you covered in that scenario too.
